The Wilder Kaiser
The Kaiser Mountains are a mountain range located east of Kufstein, situated between the gentle, rocky ridges of the Chiemgau Alps to the north and the Kitzbühel Alps to the south. The two main ridges, which run parallel from west to east, are approximately 20 km long and 14 km wide.
The Kaiser range belongs to the Northern Limestone Alps and consists primarily of Wetterstein limestone and dolomite. Extensive moraine fields remain as remnants of the Ice Age. A small cirque glacier still exists between Fleischbank and the Goinger Halten, though it is likely to disappear soon if average temperatures continue to rise. The Kaiser Mountains are drained to the west by the Sparchnerbach, which flows through the Kaisertal valley; to the east by the Kaisertalbach, which flows through the Kaiserbachtal valley; and to the north by the Weissenbach. In the far west of the range lies Lake Hinterstein, a renowned natural gem and popular swimming lake.
The northern ridge, the Zahmer Kaiser, reaches a height of 2,001 m at the Vordere Kesselschneid, while the southern ridge, the Wilder Kaiser, peaks at the 2,344 m high Ellmauer Halt. Precipices up to 1,000 m high and bizarre rock pinnacles give the mountains a wildness and grandeur that is unparalleled in the surrounding region.
Söll am Wilden Kaiser
Located just a few kilometers from the Kufstein-Kiefersfelden border, our village lies in a sunny, sheltered valley basin between the majestic Wilder Kaiser mountains and the Hohe Salve. Söll is a true gem. Every guest will immediately feel this in one of the typical village inns: here, you belong! Two modern gondolas provide access to the Hohe Salve, an outstanding panoramic mountain with views of over 70 three-thousand-meter peaks. Each year, the “Mountain Summer” captivates visitors with attractions such as “Hexenwasser Hochsöll”, the “Witches’ Trail”, alpine cheese making, and bread baking. On hot summer days, you can cool off at the Söll Panorama Pool, featuring water slides, a children’s play stream, a fun park, and much more!
In winter, Söll becomes the winter arena at the foot of the Hohe Salve. Here, you will find pure snow enjoyment and typical Tyrolean hospitality for the whole family. A variety of sporting activities will make your vacation an unforgettable experience. In addition to the unique range of slopes for skiers and snowboarders—available both day and night—there is plenty to do off the slopes as well: cross-country skiing, tobogganing (including a night run), winter hiking, romantic carriage rides followed by a glass of mulled wine in one of the cozy restaurants and bars, ice skating, or relaxing in the Panorama Pool—there is something for everyone. For our winter hikers, the program has been expanded to include guided hikes and guided snowshoe tours.
Hopfgarten am Wilder Kaiser
The Tyrolean market town of Hopfgarten, with its traditional center, narrow cobbled streets, and magnificent twin-towered Baroque church, is one of the sunniest municipalities in the Kitzbühel Alps. Where the imposing “Hohe Salve” towers over idyllic side valleys, quiet hiking and cycling trails lead into the diverse Tyrolean flora and fauna during the summer. The Tyrolean peaks of the Kitzbühel Alps can be reached comfortably and without great effort: take the gondola high up or use an electric bike to explore Austria’s largest e-bike region.
The Waller family and their team will be happy to advise you on excursions to the Wilder Kaiser.
